Indore: In a daring assault on the streets of Indore, a local BJP leader, who was a close aide to Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday.
Monu Kalyane, vice-president of BJP’s Yuva Morcha in Indore, had close ties with BJP national general secretary Vijayvargiya and his son, former MLA Akash Vijayvargiya.
Police said after preliminary investigation that Kalyane was shot by two individuals – identified as Piyush and Arjun – to avenge an old enmity.
Indore Police have launched a massive manhunt for the accused who fled after committing the crime.
According to eyewitnesses, two men on a bike approached Kalyane who was putting up banners and posters for a BJP car rally in Indore’s Chimanbagh area.
As Kalyane, who was asked for a phone number, took out his mobile, one of the miscreants pulled out a pistol and shot him in the chest.
Kalyane was rushed to the hospital by his fellow-banner fixers, but was declared dead by doctors.
Kalyane was popular for organising programmes in his area on a grand scale, which were attended by senior BJP leaders and other prominent personalities.
A big police team has been deployed outside Kalyane’s residence, and the area cordoned off, as also the place where the killing took place.
