Bhubaneswar: Keeping his promise to help a filaria-afflicted patient, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra admitted him to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
Patra personally visited the family of the elephantiasis patient Santosh Barik of Ankula village from Chilika and accompanied him in the ambulance to AIIMS on Wednesday. The BJP leader also assured to meet Barik’s medical expenses incurred in the course of treatment.
The BJP spokesperson had met parents of Santosh during his visit to Chilika along with party colleague Prithviraj Harichandan of Chilika. The distressed parents informed him of the plight of Santosh following which he decided to come back and take care of his treatment. “Santosh’s treatment will continue for a year as per the consultation with AIIMS administration,” said Patra.
A team of six doctors at AIIMS said it will take around five surgeries and 10 months time to rid him of the disease.
In January, Patra paid a visit to the village after seeing a video of Santosh’s struggles posted on the social media by his relatives, said Radhashyam Barik, uncle of Santos. He had assured to take the responsibility of Santosh’s treatment and has tood by his word, said Radhashyam.
