Kolkata: A day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that she would contest from Nandigram constituency, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday said he would not allow her to contest from two constituencies and dared her to win the election.
Addressing a public meeting at Nandigram, Suvendu said Mamata has forgotten history and has to refer to chits to ‘fool’ the people that she is with them. Taking potshot at the chief minister’s claim that she had penned a book on Singur and Nandigram movement, (the movements that brought the Trinamool Congress to power in 2011), Suvendu said, “Mamata Banerjee is still lying to woo voters. I have read the book and there is no mention of Nandigram. We will not allow Mamata to contest from two constituencies. You have promoted police officers who opened fire on protestors in Nandigram. Let her contest from Nandigram and she will lose by a big margin.”
Calling Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee an ‘extortionist’, former transport minister alleged that Abhishek is ‘greedy of both power and money’.
Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who was also present at Suvendu’s rally, claimed that Mamata will lose even at her home constituency. “Kalighat area is said to be the TMC’s citadel. The chief minister and her nephew have practically looted everyone in that area. Even then, she cannot win on her home turf. The BJP will sweep the upcoming polls in Bengal,” said the singer-turned-politician.
Earlier in the day, Mamata had attacked the BJP at a public meeting in Purulia, comparing it to ‘venomous snake’ and asking the people of Bengal to reject the party.
