New Delhi: BJP leader Varun Gandhi lent his support to the ongoing farmers’ protests across the country. The Pilbhit parliamentarian also called for “re-engagement” with the protesting farmers appealing for the inclusion of their point of view in working out a common ground.
“Lakhs of farmers have gathered in protest today, in Muzaffarnagar. They are our own flesh and blood. We need to start re-engaging with them in a respectful manner: understand their pain, their point of view and work with them in reaching common ground,” Varun Gandhi said via a tweet on Sunday.
A video recording of hundreds and thousands of farmers gathering at Muzaffarnagar for the Kisan Mahapanchayat was shared by the BJP leader on Sunday.
Earlier, Gandhi had criticised Karnal sub-divisional magistrate Ayush Sinha for directing on-duty police personnel to “break heads” of protesting farmers in case they breach the barricade. “I hope this video is edited and the DM did not say this… Otherwise, this is unacceptable in democratic India to do to our own citizens,” Gandhi had tweeted on August 28.
