Bhubaneswar: A hotel was sealed by a bank in Odisha’s Khurda on Wednesday following non-payment of loan by its proprietor, who happens to be a BJP leader.
Sources said Punjab National Bank (PNB) took possession of Hotel Suryamukhi and sealed it in the presence of a magistrate and police on account of loan default.
Officials of Punjab National Bank, Bhubaneswar Circle visited the hotel and sealed the building due to loan default to the tune of Rs 5.5 crore availed by its proprietor Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, who is said to be BJP’s Khurda district unit president.
Mohapatra had taken loan from from the bank’s Jatni Argul branch, but despite several notices he failed to repay, a bank official said, adding that the bank took possession of the hotel in view of outstanding amount of around Rs 5.5 crore.
Senior officials of PNB, Khordha Town police station IIC Tariq Ahmed, other senior police officials and one platoon of policemen were present during the takeover by the bank.
