Bhubaneswar: Several BJP leaders and workers of Bhubaneswar North Assembly constituency resigned from the party and joined BJD on Sunday.
The former BJP leaders and workers were welcomed to BJD by Bhubaneswar North MLA Sushant Rout, MP Sasmit Patra, former deputy mayor Basanti Singh and others at a function in the party office Sankha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
The senior BJD leaders said the newly inducted members will further strengthen the party organisation in the constituency.
The former BJP leaders, who switched to BJD, included Pradip Pati, Bandana Rani Pattnaik, J Simanchal Rao, former BJP general secretary Santosh Kumar Behera and others.
Speaking on the occasion, they said they joined BJD as they were inspired by clean image, transparent administration and people-friendly policies of chief minister Naveen Patnaik. They assured of carrying out the responsibilities assigned to them by the party.
