Bhubaneswar: The BJP Mahila Morcha activists had a scuffle with the police while they were on the way to Naveen Niwas to meet the Chief Minister in connection with Pipili gang rape and murder case.
According to sources, hundreds of BJP Mahila Morcha activists led by president Pravati Parida and BJP state unit secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar set out for Naveen Niwas, carrying bangles, to meet the Chief Minister and urge him to sack Agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy from the ministry for his atrocious and audacious statement following the acquittal of the two prime accused in the incident by the court and order a CBI probe into the incident.
However, the Morcha activists had a scuffle with the police at the Airport Traffic Square near the Forest Park. Several activists, including the president and the secretary, were later detained.
Seven years after the sensational case, the court of Additional District Judge on December 24 last year had acquitted the prime accused, Prasant Pradhan and his brother Sukant Pradhan, due to lack of evidence.
Soon after the acquittal of the two accused, Maharathy had told the media that truth has prevailed and justice done to the victim and her family.
