Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of BJP Mahila Morcha activists vandalized the office of the Odisha State Commission for Women in the city here on Thursday demanding a detailed probe report on Kunduli victim’s suicide case.
Sources said the irate Morcha activists barged into the office of the Women Commission and ransacked furniture and other office stationeries. They also had a scuffle with the police who tried to prevent them from entering the office.
Taking a jibe at the state government, Morcha leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar said the rising incidence on atrocities on women has triggered statewide uproar.
Referring to the suicide of a minor rape victim girl in Kunduli area of Koraput district, she said the though the rape of the minor girl had occurred four months ago, the state police isyet to nab the accused till date.
Coming down heavily on the modus operandi of the State Women Commission, she said it is certain that the chairperson of this Commission has been doing her best to save her seat and protect the Chief Minister.
“The Commission is not working for the women rather safeguarding the interest of the government. We have found that the chairperson has remained absent in her office most of the time. Besides, she has not properly dealt with any major cases so far. Taking all these into consideration, we had come to the State Women’s Commission office to ask its chairperson to explain as to why there should be such office in Odisha since it has done nothing for the women,” she added.
