New Delhi: Narendra Modi was today formally elected by NDA leaders as the Prime Minister for the next five years.
1. Addressing the newly-elected MPs in the Central Hall of Parliament, with senior BJP leaders such as L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi in attendance, the PM said the unprecedented mandate has overwhelmed him. He asked the Parliamentarians to pledge themselves to the cause of the nation and for all citizens.
2. BJP, he said, has got at least 25 per cent more votes than the 2014 elections. The increase in the number of votes was more than the total votes polled for US President Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
3. In 17 states, the voters gave more than 50 per cent votes to the BJP, he said. “When I was campaigning, I realised that it is not Modi or BJP that is contesting the elections, it is the people of the country,” he said.
