Bhubaneswar: A three-member central team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), constituted to look into the murder of Mamita Meher, will visit the incident spot on Friday.
BJP national president J P Nadda has constituted the committee comprising MP Sunita Duggal, BJP Mahila Morcha’s national president Vanathi Srinivasan and MLA Rupa Mitra. The committee will submit its report to Nadda.
Intensifying the pressure on the Naveen Patnaik government, BJP workers on Wednesday staged protests across Odisha demanding the dismissal of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his complicity in the case.
BJP Yuva Morcha members gheraoed the Balasore SP office. Party activists led by Sundargarh MP Jual Oram took out a rally from Deogaon. They submitted a memorandum to Sundargarh SP seeking a CBI probe into the case.
The BJP will gherao SP offices in nine districts — Puri, Balasore, Gajapati, Jagatsinghapur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Khordha, Nayagarh and Jharsuguda — on Wednesday.
Attacking the Minister of State for Home, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Tuesday said, “This police audacity is due to the involvement of MoS (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra. The Minister while attending a programme in the college had once said when I stay at night here, I become young. Such shameless talks are being aired on and still, the Minister has not been sacked.”
Mamita (26), a teacher at Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district, had gone missing on October 8. Her family members had alleged the involvement of Govind Sahu, president of the school managing committee. Opposition parties have alleged Dibya Shankar Mishra was close to Sahu.
Sahu had been detained after an FIR was lodged against him by Mamita’s brother. However, he managed to escape from Titlagarh police barrack on October 17. He was apprehended on October 19.
During interrogation, he revealed that he had murdered Mamita fearing that she might expose his extra-marital affair. Sahu is facing charges of killing Mamita, burning her body and burying the remains in an under-construction stadium on the school campus.
