BJP Pulls Out Of Alliance With PDP In J&K, CM Mehbooba Mufti Resigns

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti resigned after the BJP pulled out of its alliance with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday.

The saffron party’s president Amit Shah took the decision based on the views of the BJP’s J&K ministers. The decision was later conveyed to the PDP.

The break-up of the alliance that took the reins after J&K Assembly election of 2014 which saw the PDP emerging as the biggest party with 28 seats and the BJP emerging as the second-biggest with 25 seats comes at a time when faultiness had been apparent for at least a few months.

Just before the decision was announced, the J&K Deputy CM had hit out at Mehbooba Mufti over her alleged wish for the Ramzan ceasefire to be extended.

A major flash point was also witnessed between the BJP and PDP a few months back as the former’s ministers in the J&K government tendered their resignations over the fallout from the horrific Kathua rape and murder’s chargesheet being filed.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah welcomed the decision. Governor’s rule may be the only way out of the turmoil in the state, he opined.
