Bhubaneswar: Taking strong exception to power distribution companies’ demand for power tariff hike, the BJP on Thursday came down heavily on the Odisha government.
Briefing mediapersons here, state BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra slammed the government over waiving pending power bills of mega industries and power distribution companies amounting to Rs 12,000 crore, and disconnecting electricity from the houses of the poor..
“While 332 companies are yet to pay the pending water cess of Rs 515 crore, 26 mega industries and the power distribution companies have defaulted Rs 1784 crore and Rs 3937 crore respectively. Apart from this, the government has waived the water cess of the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) to the tune of Rs 5225 crore,” Mohapatra said.
He further alleged that the government had done little to bring down the transmission and distribution (T&D) losses.
