Bhubaneswar: Members of BJP state unit staged a mass demonstration at Ram Mandir Square here on Monday, demanding justice for Salepur minor rape victim.
“The state government should take appropriate measures to curb rising incidents of crime and atrocities against women, particularly involving innocent minor girls and ensure justice for Salepur rape victim by initiating a thorough probe into the matter,” a party leader said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed profound grief and shock over the tragic death of Salepur rape victim during the question hour of Odisha Assembly and promised stringent action against the accused. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
Earlier this morning, a seven-member team of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), including Sheikh Matlub Ali, Bijayalaxmi Sahu and Sumitra Jena, met the family members of Salepur rape victim, who succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital last evening.
The team held discussions with six-year-old girl’s family members at Jagannathpur village under Salepur block in Cuttack district and assured all possible support. They demanded strict action against the accused.
