Puri: Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday gheraoed the block office in Puri alleging large scale irregularities involving its officials.

Hundreds of BJP workers, led by Puri Sadar MLA Jayant Sarangi and party leader Upasana Mohapatra took out a massive rally from Gundicha temple in the town. After reaching the block office, they staged a demonstration in front of its main gate and raised slogans against the state government for corruption in implementation of welfare schemes.

They alleged that the BDO and the officials of the block administration were involved in corruption, depriving the true beneficiaries of the welfare schemes of the Central government.

“There is rampant corruption from village to block level under the present government in the state. The common people are harassed and remain neglected due to irregularities committed by the government officials at all steps,” said Sarangi.

Demanding a check on corrupt practices in government offices, the MLA threatened that the BJP would intensify the fight against corruption in future.
