Bhubaneswar: Alleging large scale irregularities in allotment of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY) in Odisha, BJP on Saturday staged a demonstration in Bhubaneswar
Raising slogans against the BJD government in the state, a large number of BJP workers took out a rally from Samantarapur Chowk and marched towards the block office in the capital city. The saffron party had earlier announced that its workers would stage protest at all blocks across the state against sanction of PMAY houses to ‘ineligible’ people.
As the protesters holding banners and placards reached the block office, scuffle erupted with the police personnel while trying to storm into its premises.
Coming down heavily on the state government, BJP’s Bhubaneswar unit president Babu Singh said the Narendra Modi government sanctioned the houses under PMAY to ensure roof over the heads of poor people.
However, the BJD government is awarding houses among its own party workers depriving poor people of the benefit, he alleged, adding that people have buildings are being provided with houses under PMAY in the state.
Another BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan claimed the state government, which is responsible for massive irregularities in allotment of PMAY houses, will have to pay a heavy price in the future as people are fed up with it.
While workers and supporters of the ruling BJD are getting PMAY houses, eligible people are being denied the benefit, he alleged.
The state government, on its part, has been claiming that the names of ineligible beneficiaries have been deleted after inquiring into complaints and houses have been sanctioned to eligible beneficiaries only.
