New Delhi: The BJP will hold protests across the country on Monday against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father, which the party called “insulting, indecent and offensive,” IANS reported.
According to a BJP statement, party units have been instructed to hold protests at every state headquarters, with leaders and workers expected to assemble in large numbers to register their objection.
Protests At State Congress Offices
The BJP said the demonstrations were a response to comments made by the Congress chief during an event in Patna, which it characterised as highly objectionable and an affront to the dignity of the Prime Minister’s family.
Party leaders argued that the remark went beyond acceptable political criticism and constituted a personal attack rather than a discussion of policy or governance. They said targeting relatives of political figures — particularly those who are no longer alive — marked a new low in public discourse.
The BJP has asked its state organisations to conduct demonstrations that remain peaceful but firm. Its spokespersons said the nationwide mobilisation would make clear that such language would not be accepted.
Apology Demanded
Senior BJP leaders have sought an unconditional apology from Kharge, maintaining that political differences cannot justify personal insults. They said democratic public life must be guided by minimum standards of decency and mutual respect.
Kharge’s comment, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (“Even Modi’s father will have to go”), was made in Patna after an audience member said the Prime Minister would not go anywhere, reports said.
The row is expected to deepen political tensions between the two parties in the days ahead.
The decision to hold protests across all states signals that the BJP regards the issue as serious. Attention will now turn to the turnout at Monday’s demonstrations and any further response from the Congress.
