Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Monday announced that it would support the Odisha bandh call given by the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) on February 21 demanding price, prestige and pension.
Briefing mediapersons at the party office here, BJP state president Basant Panda said that in a democracy, everyone has the right to speak and protest in a democratic manner. Although NNKS activists have planned to stage a demonstration in Bhubaneswar, the state government has with the help of the police has disallowed them from doing so.
“Instead of putting pressure, the state government should initiate talks with the Sangathan in a democratic manner. But the manner in which the state government has shown its repressive attitude towards the Sangathan, speaks volumes of its anti-farmer policy and autocratic rule,” the BJP leader maintained.
