Bhubaneswar: Echoing Union Minister Dharmedra Pradhan’s version that a ‘wave of change is visible in Odisha’, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Monday said the saffron party will win more than 15 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the upcoming elections.

“I can say with all confidence that the way things are going, there is an undercurrent in Odisha and the BJP will win over 15 Lok Sabha seats. We will form the government in Odisha as well and there will be a double-engine government here. People are keen to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in Odisha,” said Aparajita, who the BJP renominated from Bhubaneswar parliamentary constituency.

The bureaucrat-turned-politician also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, party’s president JP Nadda and the Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal for having put faith in her. “They think that whatever I have done in the last five years has gone down well with the public and hence they have renominated me. This ticket is not only for me but for all the people of the constituency. With all conviction I would like to state that this Lok Sabha election will not only be fought by me but all 20 lakh electorate of the parliamentary constituency,” she said.

She said that people are aware that a non-Odia governance is in place in the state and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is brought to the forefront only while seeking votes. “Corruption has seeped into every corner of the government. We can see non-Odia contractor being assigned work in the state. Had the CM led from the front, then people might have voted him for the sixth term,” she added.

In 2019, Aparajita had defeated BJD’s Arup Patnaik, the former Mumbai Police Commissioner, in Bhubaneswar parliamentary seat by a margin of over 20,000 votes.

Though Conch party is yet to announce its candidate for the seat, it has long been projecting general secretary Shreemayee Mishra as its likely nominee.
