Jeypore: Normal life came to a standstill at Jeypore town in Koraput district on Thursday following an eight-hour bandh call by the BJP to press for four-point charter of demands.
Almost all shops, commercial establishments, educational institutions and offices downed shutters and vehicles stayed off the road at several places in the town and nearby areas, owing to the strike.
Activists of the saffron party picketed and staged road blockades at key junctions of the town seeking fulfillment of their demands, including Notified Area Council (NAC) status for Borigumma block and proper functioning of Jeypore hospital which has already been given the district headquarters status.
The bandh was supported by some locals and traders.
The bandh supporters alleged that though they had knocked on the doors of the authorities concerned on several occasions over their demands, nothing came off it.
