Bhubaneswar: Fire Services DG BK Sharma has taken full additional charge as Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force (HoPF).
The 1986-batch IPS officer formally assumed office at the state police headquarters here on Thursday.
In his 33-year career, the newly-appointed HoPF has served SP of four districts, seven years in CBI and as many as IG and ADG of Crime Branch. He was also the Twin City Commissioner of Police from to .
He is currently serving as the Director General, Fire Services; Commandant General, Home Guards, and Director, Civil Defence.
On Tuesday, the Odisha government had issued a notification stating that BK Sharma will be holding full additional charge as DGP and HoPF.
It came a day after Governor Ganeshi Lal approved the appointment of outgoing DGP RP Sharma as a Lokayukta member. If sources are to be believed, he was no longer keen to continue in the top cop post. He had applied for VRS and was waiting for the government’s go ahead on it. It will also pave way for his joining the new assignment.
On Thursday, R P Sharma tweeted a ‘thank you’ message for media, indicating at his exit as the DGP.
