Vijayawada: In a concerning incident, black balloons were released close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s chopper in Vijayawada on Monday.
Four Congress workers were arrested. Police said more arrests are likely.
Krishna district’s superintendent of police Siddharth Kaushal informed that three Congress protesters had been taken into custody as they released black balloons soon after the PM’s helicopter took off from Gannavaram airport.
There was talk of a security breach during Modi’s departure, but the police said that was not the case.
“Balloons were released 5 minutes after PM’s departure (from the airport via chopper),” ANI quoted a police officer as saying.
ANI shared visuals where black balloons are seen flying into the sky, most likely as a display of protest against the PM, moments after his chopper took off from Vijayawada.
Congress leaders were demonstrating at the airport when the PM’s chopper took off. After releasing the black balloons, they raised slogans against Modi.
Modi was in Andhra Pradesh to attend the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju. He unveiled a 30-foot bronze statue of Raju, which cost Rs 3 crore.
