Kyiv: Russian forces have “destroyed” a third of Ukraine’s power stations in repeated strikes targeting energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed on Tuesday.
“Since October 10, 30 per cent of Ukraine’s power stations have been destroyed, causing massive blackouts across the country.. no space left for negotiations with (President Vladimir) Putin’s regime,” Zelensky tweeted.
AFP reported that several regions in the war-hit eastern European country, including capital Kyiv, have been experiencing power cuts.
Many areas in Zhytomyr region, west of Kyiv, and parts of Dnipro in central Ukraine are without electricity, while power has been restored to the southern city of Mykolaiv.
Energy operator DTEK said there were “interruptions” to the electricity and water supply to the residents of the capital’s left bank.
“Engineers are investigating and making all the necessary efforts to restore the power to the city’s residents,” the company said on Facebook.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged Kyiv residents to save electricity “as much as possible” and avoid using appliances with high energy consumption.
