Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended Block Resource Coordinator (BRC) of Deogaon block in Balangir district, Madhusudan Patel, while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 bribe.
According to an official release, Patel had demanded the illegal gratification from an authorised representative of a SHG for facilitating release of bills for construction of individual household latrines. The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the BRC.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are on at two locations linked to Patel to ascertain whether he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A case has been registered against him at Sambalpur Vigilance police station under Section 7 of PC (amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is on, the release added.
