Bhadrak: Former sarpanch of Bandhagaon panchayat in Odisha’s Bhadrak district was allegedly hacked to death on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Chitta Ranjan Rout, also the former president of Ambaroli Cooperative Society.

According to sources, the incident took place when Rout was returning home after attending an ‘Astama Prahari’ programme in a neighbouring village on Tuesday evening. His blood-soaked body was later found near a canal. His head and body bore wounds, suggesting a brutal attack with a sharp weapon.

While police have started an investigation, a scientific team is expected to reach the spot soon. The motive behind the alleged murder is yet to be ascertained.
