Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday warned of strict action against those found using single-use plastic materials in the areas under it.
In a video message, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said the ban on single-use plastic materials would come into effect in Bhubaneswar from July 1.
He said as per the provisions of Plastic Waste Management Amednment Rules, 2021, production, import or export, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic items are banned in the city.
Carry bag, stick, spoon, glass, straw, candy stick, tray, ice-cream stick, wrapping, plate, decoration items, invitation card, cigarette packet, PVC material and stickers made of single-use plastic has been banned under the Rules.
Kulange appealed to people, shop-keepers and traders to refrain from using any product made of single-use plastic. He warned that if anybody would be found using the banned items, BMC would initiate strict action against him.
