Bhubaneswar: A 19-year-old man of Nirankari Nagar of Salia Sahi in Odisha capital tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. He is a contact of an earlier positive with a travel history to New Delhi.
Following detection of the new case, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary visited Jharanapalli and Nirankari Nagar slums of Salia Sahi, where people have been quarantined. The commissioner held discussions with COVID Sachetaks, local residents and others in the presence of BMC officials like ZDCs, and surveillance teams.
Earlier a pregnant woman, a Gujarat returnee, from the Capital’s biggest slum had tested positive during her delivery. The 23-year-old have been cured and all 46 primary contacts including family members and another 195 in the neighbourhood tested negative for the virus after 10 rounds of active surveillance, the BMC had tweeted.
The detection of the first case in Salia Sahi was seen as an ominous sign as it increased the possibility of the virus spreading like wildfire as was the case with Dharavi slum in Mumbai.
