Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified the places for 7 more parking lots in Bhubaneswar to ease the problems of vehicle owners.
According to sources, the new parking places for vehicles have been earmarked in 3 administrative zones of the BMC. In Baramunda, three parking lots are located in front of Union Bank, City Mart Complex and Tata Motors.
Similarly, one has been earmarked near Hotel Presidency in Jaydev Vihar, one near Damana Haat, one near Utkal Hospital and one at Apollo Hospital.
“After careful consideration, we decided to carve out new parking spaces. The new parking lots will help create more regulated spaces for vehicles,” TOI quoted Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das as saying.
She said the vehicle owners have been complaining about parking near Apollo Hospital due to the congestion between Acharya Vihar Square and Sainik School. Though BMC and the Commissionerate Police took up parking enforcement drives several times, the problem persisted.
Finally, the BMC decided to earmark the designated parking space near Apollo Hospital after discussion with the latter, she added.
Meanwhile, the BMC has decided to lease out its existing 18 parking lots in the city to the bidders who will look after the parking services for a year.
