Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided not to collect ground rent from the organisations holding community puja during this year’s festive season.
The BMC took the decision following Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s direction in this regard. The chief minister issued the direction considering the proposals from local MLAs and different puja committees in the state capital, a release from CMO stated.
Earlier, different clubs and associations organising celebration of festivals in public places had approached the elected representatives of their areas to take up the matter. They wanted the BMC to waive the ground rent to ease their budget on providing better facilities to visitors to the pandals in the city.
It may be noted that festivals like Ganesh Puja, Dussehra, Kali Puja, Laxmi Puja and Kartikeswar Puja are held on pandals for community celebration by the associations and clubs in different places of Bhubaneswar every year.
