Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday issued an order prohibiting congregation on the banks of Bindusagar Lake in the city on the occasion of Mahalaya tomorrow.
The BMC in its order stated that since large gathering is expected to observe Mahalaya on the banks of the lake, restrictions have been imposed on the gathering on the occasion to prevent spread of COVID.
Besides gathering, the BMC has also prohibited all rituals related to the Mahalaya and ‘Brahmana Bhojan’.
The municipal body said it issued the order in view of restrictions imposed by the state government on large religious congregation and to ensure public safety in apprehension of spread of the COVID pandemic.
