BMC Plans To Install Air Purifiers At Key Locations In Bhubaneswar To Curb Pollution

Bhubaneswar: As part of efforts to check alarming rise in pollution in Odisha capital, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to install air purifiers at major locations across the city.

Officials said the move is aimed at keeping the Air Quality Index (AQI) within permissible level and improve overall air quality in the capital city.

The project is proposed to be implemented in phases. In the first phase, air purifiers will be installed at J

ayadev Vihar and AG Square, two highly busy traffic junctions. Discussion has already been held with the Pollution Control Board to ensure effective implementation of the plan, according to Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das.

Stating that the BMC is taking several measures to reduce pollution levels in the city, she said water sprinkling is also being carried out at locations where mechanical sweeping is undertaken, to control dust and particulate matter.

The installation of air purifiers at key locations is part of a broader strategy to address growing pollution concerns in Bhubaneswar. The civic body plans to expand the initiative to more areas in subsequent phases, based on the results of the pilot implementation.

The move comes amid increasing concerns over deteriorating air quality, especially during winter months, when pollution levels tend to rise.
