Bhubaneswar: A joint team of BMC and police on Wednesday seized polythene carry bags and stale food in huge quantity during a surprise visit to food stalls and hotels in the city.
The joint comprising plastic enforcement, food security and central enforcement squad of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) accompanied by police visited different food stalls and hotels in Kolathia and SUM Hospital area under South West zone of the municipal area.
The joint team destroyed 40-50 kg of stale and unhygienic food and seized 12 kg of polythene carry bags during the surprise check.
They also imposed of Rs 22,000 on 12 business units for selling unhygienic food and using banned polythene carry bags. While Rs 10,000 was collected for selling unhygienic food, Rs 12,00 was collected for use of polythene carry bag.
The team packed the seized food items and destroyed those spraying of phenyl. The units were warned not to repeat the violations to prevent facing stringent action.
