Bhubaneswar: Here’s good news for the citizens of the Temple City. Finally, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has woken up to the mosquito menace plaguing the city. The BMC has drafted a master action plan to curb the alarmingly rising mosquito menace in the city.
According to BMC commissioner Amruta Kulange, the civic body will make use of drones to spray chemicals in the remote areas of the city, which cannot be accessed by vehicles.
In addition, the BMC plans to increase the number of vehicles engaged in fogging activity in Bhubaneswar. At the same time, additional teams will be pressed into service to cut bushes. Kulange said that a technical team will survey the areas troubled by alarming rise in breeding of mosquitoes.
On Thursday, Sulochana Das, BMC Mayor, said, “Mosquitoes give rise to several problems and, hence, we convened a special meeting today. We would like to follow the pattern of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to identify the source of mosquito breeding. Once we locate them, we will spray chemicals through drones. This initiative will be launched from December 23.”
“Effort is on to intensify fogging activity. We will increase the fogging team. The process has already started and it will begin in a couple of days,” Kulange said.
“We are also emphasising on grass cutting in mosquito-prone areas,” he added.
