Bhubaneswar: Toughening its stand against dumping of waste on roads in the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take stringent action against violators of civic rules.
Speaking on the issue, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange told reporters on Wednesday that talks are being held with different residents’ and traders’ associations as part of efforts to find a solution to the problem of open dumping of waste in the capital city.
Stating that the BMC held a meeting with the Unit 4 market association on the issue, he said vehicles of the civic body will travel and collect the garbage.
People have been requested to refrain from throwing garbage on roads, he said, adding that the BMC has decided to take action against the shops and impose penalty for any form of violation. Shops found violating the rules will also be closed, if necessary, Kulange said.
This apart, the BMC has also conducted a thorough review of the revenue collection including holding tax, trade license, commercial holding taxes and users fee for sanitation.
It was found that many people, who have constructed buildings for domestic use, are using the premises for commercial purposes, the commissioner said, adding that fresh assessment would be conducted for collection of domestic holding.
