Bhubaneswar: Mihir Shah, the main accused in the high-profile BMW hit and run case in Mumbai, was arrested on Tuesday after remaining elusive for three days of the incident.
A team of Mumbai Police arrested 24-year-old Mihir was arrested from Shahpur in Thane. He was taken to the police station in Worli, where the incident took place for questioning, a report of Business Standard said.
Mihir, the son of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader Rajesh Shah, was driving the BMW when he hit a couple going on a scooter in Worly area on Sunday morning. Pradeep Nakhwa was riding the two-wheeler while his wife Kaveri was riding pillion.
Kaveri, who was dragged over 100 metre after being thrown off the scooter, died on the spot, while Pradeep sustained critical injuries. Following the mishap, Mihir fled and remained elusive.
The Mumbai Police formed six dedicated teams to locate him and also issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) to prevent him from escaping from the country. One of the teams traced him in a hideout in Thane, leading to his arrest.
Mihir’s father Rajesh Shah, who is the owner of the luxury car, was granted bail on Monday. The driver of Shah family, Rajrishi Bidawat, who was present in the vehicle at the time of the accident, was detained by police.
Besides Shah, 11 others have been arrested in connection with the case.
