BNHS Regional Centre To Be Inaugurated In Odisha’s Chilika Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The first regional centre of India’s premier wildlife research organisation, Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), will be inaugurated in Chilika on Monday.

Set up on the premises of the Wetland Research and Training Centre (WRTC) of the Chilika Development Authority (CDA) at Chandrapur, the centre will start functioning from Tuesday.

BNHS has been closely associated with Chilika since 1967. With the efforts of CDA, and the forest department, BNHS has been jointly conducting bird census for the last 15 years during winter.

An official source revealed that a regional centre is being opened for the first time at Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon.

The organization will be engaged in various studies and reports including identification of air route of the winged guests at Chilika, collection of the samples, training related to bird census, publication of the bird migration atlas book and examination of diseases among avian species.

They will also revive the condition of Nalabana Bird Sanctuary along with counting of the birds, the sources added.

BNHS has been promoting the Conservation of Nature in India since its establishment in 1883.
