Angul: Two people went missing after a boat capsized in Lower Samal Barrage in Angul district on Thursday. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to rescue the missing persons.
The incident took place at around 2:30 pm when five employees of a contract firm of Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack were conducting a barrage survey work.
The boat capsized after sudden release of water from the Barrage and the employees went missing.
Later, three of the victims managed to swim across to the shore safely, while two others, identified as operator Ashok Kumar hailing from Parjang and engineer of the firm Ramesh Satapathy from Berhampur went missing.
Receiving information about the mishap, officials from Samal police station and ODRAF team rushed to the spot and swung into action to rescue the duo.
The Barrage gates have been closed and search operation intensified.
