Kendrapada: A major tragedy was averted following swift action by locals who rescued around 50 passengers stranded in Mahanadi river due to a technical glitch in a boat carrying them in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the boat with over 50 passengers on board got stuck in the middle of Mahanadi river for three long hours following a technical snag. Tne passengers were safely rescued.
Sources said that the passengers had boarded the boat from Bahakuda-Musadiha ferry ghat. Two boats had left from the ghat in the morning.
The boats were on way to Paradip when the engine of one of the vessel developed some snag. On getting information, local fishermen and others swung into action and brought the boat to the shore. The passengers had a harrowing time in the river as they were stranded for around three hours.
Apart from passengers, the boats also carried motorcycles, scooters, bicycles and other articles.
