New Delhi: Giving a suo motu statement in Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swarak said that all the 39 Indians, who were abducted by ISIS in Iraq in June 2015, were killed and their bodies have been recovered.
Terrorist organisation ISIS had abducted 40 Indians from Mosul in Iraq three years back. One among them had however escaped by posing as a Bangladeshi Muslim. The rest were killed in Badoosh.
The bodies were found after a few locals informed that ISIS had buried some bodies in the area. With the use of technology, the search confirmed the presence of a mass grave which has exactly 39 bodies.
India had then requested the Iraqi officials to exhume the body. After DNA testing, the identity of 38 Indians have been established while 70 per cent of the DNA matches for the 39th one.
The bodies will be brought back to India on a special flight.
