Balasore: District collector Pramod Kumar Majhi on Friday ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, where ambulance staff allegedly abandoned a dead body on the roadside at Soro in Balasore district on Thursday morning.
Acting on the collector’s direction, tehsildar Priyabrata Padhi visited the village of the deceased, identified as Rehman Khan, and interacted with his family members. He was working as a daily wage labourer at Chintamanipada in Soro.
According to reports, the elderly man was ill and brought to Balasore district headquarters hospital by a female acquaintance on Wednesday. He passed away the following morning.
An ambulance driver, who was carrying the body from the hospital to his house, allegedly dropped it midway on the national highway near Paikali Bridge in the district and left the spot when Khan’s acquaintance expressed her inability to pay for the service.
