Sundargarh: Body of a 18 year-old youth was recovered on Tuesday, almost 40 hours after he went missing while bathing in Ib river in Odisha’s Sundargarh district during a picnic trip to Kanakunda.
Fire Service personnel found the body of Satwik Kanjipati from Visakhapatnam floating 7 km away at Kusumura ghat, sources said.
The incident had taken place on October 13 when Satwik, his sister along with their uncle, Prasad Kanjipati, an employee with NTPC at Darlipali, who they were visiting for Puja holidays, and 15 other people went on a picnic. While others were busy making arrangements for the feast, Satwik along with some girls entered the Ib river for a bath, but slipped and was swept away.
Hearing screams, Prasad and others cried for help but failed to rescue him. Later, Fire Service personnel reached the spot and started a search operations which ended this morning with recovery of the body.
Meanwhile, Talsara police have reached the spot and seized the body for postmortem.
