New Delhi: The mortal remains of the Indian student who was shot dead in Toronto will be brought to Delhi on February 16.
“Toronto Police have said that the accused has been produced before a court and asked to hire a lawyer because of which the next hearing is on April 20. The body will arrive in New Delhi tomorrow,” ANI quoted Hitesh Vasudev, the father of 21-year-old Kartik Vasudev, as saying.
Kartik, who flew to Canada in January, had been pursuing MBA in international business.
Toronto Police arrested 39-year-old Richard Jonathan Edwin, who is suspected to be involved in the murder of another man two days before Kartik was killed.
Toronto Police described the two incidents as ‘random attacks’, and said investigators are working to establish the motive behind the attacks.
Kartik’s family, however, believes his killing appears to be a hate crime.
“We don’t think it was a random crime and it seems to be hate crime or an act of racism. The police did not even tell us how many gunshot wounds were found in my son’s body… They said that the suspect had no interaction with Kartik, and fired directly at him,” his father Hitesh said earlier.
The family has urged the Central government to intervene so that the case against the accused can be expedited.
