Dhenkanal: The body of a college student soaked in blood was recovered from a forest in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Thursday.
This has raised strong suspicions of rape and murder prior to the disposal of her remains in the forest near Saruali village under Kamakhya Nagar police limits in Dhenkanal.
According to sources, the deceased was a Plus II firs
t year student of a nearby women’s college and belonged to Marthapur village. She attended college on Wednesday and appeared for an examination but did not return home. Her body with injury marks was spotted by villagers the following morning, who informed the sarpanch.
“We reported the matter to the police after coming across the body in the forest. It looks as though she was raped and murdered,” Saruali Sarpanch Madan Chandra Behera told a local news channel.
Additional SP, SDPO and officials of Kamakhya Nagar police station have reached the spot and a probe is underway. The area has been cordoned off. Scientific teams have recovered her bag and other items.
Police sources added her family was informed and they had reached the site.
