Sambalpur: The body of a woman student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla was found on Wednesday, over 12 hours after she allegedly jumped into a power channel in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
Fire Services personnel traced the body in the power channel after more than 12 hours of search operation which had commenced on Tuesday night, sources said.
The student, identified as Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo, had gone missing after jumping off the power channel bridge on Tuesday night.
Chinmayee , who hailed from Rampur Madanpur area in Kalahandi district, was a student of the Information Technology department of the varsity. She attended the university’s convocation programme on Tuesday and received her degree. She was supposed to return home by bus after the function.
However, she had an altercation with a youth last night following which she jumped off the bridge. The exact reason behind her move was yet to be ascertained.
Following the incident, Burla police had summoned the youth for questioning. After the preliminary investigation, it was learnt that the youth was a classmate of the girl student. Two mobile phones of the youth were taken by the police as part of the probe, the sources added.
