Bhubaneswar: The decomposed body of a 22-year-old pregnant woman from Odisha’s Koraput has been recovered from Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.
The victim, identified as Albina Garada from Tunkhal village in Koraput district, had been missing since July 29, according to an India Today report.
Two people — 35-year-old Mohan Khilla, her alleged lover, and 19-year-old Milan Kuldeep — have been arrested on charges of committing murder and transporting the body to Andhra Pradesh.
Albina had been in a relationship with Mohan for almost a year, but her family came to know about the relationship only last month after an Anganwadi health report indicated she was around three months pregnant, News18 reported.
Shortly afterwards, Albina went missing. On August 1, Mohan lodged a missing-person complaint at Semiliguda police station.
During investigation, police came across evidence which suggested Albina may have been murdered, with Mohan and Milan possibly linked closely to the crime.
The two were detained. When they were interrogated by police, the duo revealed crucial information related to where Albina’s body was buried.
Semiliguda police, with assistance from Andhra police, launched a search operation in the Gajapathinagaram area of Vizianagaram district.
After police recovered the partially decomposed body, Albina’s father identified it as hers from the clothes found there.
The body has been sent for autopsy and DNA samples have been preserved to aid the investigation.
Police have seized the car allegedly used to transport and dispose of Albina’s body. Tools suspected to have been used to dig the burial site have been recovered.
The probe further revealed that Mohan, already married twice, was into a physical relationship with Albina. A domestic dispute over her pregnancy may have resulted in a plan to eliminate her with Milan’s assistance.
The accused duo has been remanded in judicial custody after being produced in a court.
