Boiling Heat In Odisha As Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda Sizzle At 41 Degree C In Afteroon

Bhubaneswar: As entire Odisha continued to boil under heat wave conditions, the mercury touched 41 degree Celsius at both Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda at 2.30 pm on Saturday.

While Sambalpur recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degree Celsius, the mercury stood at 40 degree Celsius at Chandbali by 2.30 pm

Similarly, the maximum day temperature stood at 39.4 degree Celsius at Hirakud, 37.2 degree in Keonjhar, 35.8 degree Celsius in Balasore, 34.8 degreeat Gopalpur, in Puri, 33.6 degree in Puri and 42 degree Celsius at Paradip.

On Friday, the mercury had breached 41 degree Celsius in as many as 14 places across the state, while Bhubanewar and Baripada remained the hottest places in the state recording 44 degree Celsius.

The MeT centre said due to prevailing northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to be more than 40°C and above normal by 3 to 5°C at a few places of Odisha during next 24 hours and slight fall thereafter at many places.

It advised people to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time between 11 am -3 pm.

According to the IMD’s latest bulletin, heat wave condition is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur and Boudh till 8.30 am of Sunday. The IMD issued a yellow weather warning for these nine districts till tomorrow morning.

On the other hand, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is predicted at many places in the State during next five days.

“Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahahdi, Kandhamal and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of the State during next 24 hours,” the bulletin said.
