Bollywood Films Focus On Six-Pack Abs, Hot Babes & Not On Reality, Says Kangana Ranaut

Mumbai: Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut spoke her mind on Bollywood films while comparing them with movies of South.

Sharing her perspective on why Bollywood films are not performing well at the box-office, the actress said during a session at Agenda Aaj Tak that the focus of Hindi films is on six-pack abs and hot babes, and not on reality.

“Pehele toh mujhe nahi lagta ke Bollywood or Hindi cinema ne mainstream hone ka theka liya hua hai (I don’t think Bollywood has taken responsibility to be the mainstream). They are not mainstream by any standard. Our films should be defined as the Indian film industry, one industry in which every type of audience is addressed,” Kangana said.

She further said that the reason behind the success of Allu Arjun-starrer ‘Pushpa 2: The Rise’ is that unlike Bollywood, South Indian filmmakers and actors think out of the box and try new things.

If the role of Pushpa Raj, a daily wage labourer, was offered to Bollywood actors, they wouldn’t have accepted it, felt Kangana.

“People in Bollywood live in a bubble. And that is one of the biggest reasons I have a problem with them. Kyunki yeh log bubble se nikalna nahi chahte han (They don’t want to come out of the bubble). All they need is to go to the gym, take protein shakes, take injections. They don’t have any connection with reality,” said the actress.

“Inko chahiye six pack abs, hot babe, beach, bike, item number bas bahut hai (They want six pack abs, hot babe, beaches, bike and item numbers. That’s enough for them)… It is important to have a reality check,” she added.

‘Pushpa: The Rise’, released in 2021, had grossed over ₹136 crore through its Telugu version and ₹106 crore from its Hindi-dubbed version.

The film’s sequel ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, which was released on December 5, is also breaking box-office records.
