Mumbai: Following the tremendous success of South Indian films in recent years, Bollywood filmmakers have started approaching South actors with a lot of warmth and respect, unlike earlier.
The influx of South actors in Bollywood has brought the two film industries together.
However, in a recent interview with CNN-News18 Showsha, South actor Regina Cassandra opened up about the demarcation between the two industries years ago and how the actors from South weren’t always welcomed in Bollywood the way it is happening now.
The actress went on to say that following the success and popularity of South films, Bollywood has no other choice but to accept its actors.
“Now, they don’t have a choice. Before… pretty snooty. If they knew that you were from the South. Mainly, I don’t know if it was because language was a barrier. But for me, it never was, so. And I don’t look like a South Indian. I don’t know if all of these things worked in my favour. But I think now it’s just become, like, they need people from the South, especially after the pandemic hit. They needed actors from the South for a bigger audience,” Regina said.
Regina has worked in both Tamil and Telugu films.
She began her career with a supporting role in the Tamil film ‘Kanda Naal Mudhal’ (2005) and rose to fame with her lead role in the Telugu film ‘Siva Manasulo Sruthi’ (2012).
Her next project is an action thriller ‘Vidaamuyarchi’, which is slated to release on February 6.
