Bomb Attack Rocks Odisha College Ahead Of Student Union Elections


Jajpur: Tension prevailed at Vyasanagar Autonomous College in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday after bombs were hurled at the Principal’s room and the boys’ hostel ahead of the student union election.

According to preliminary information, a police team visited the spot and have started an investigation.

The incident comes just a day after the notification for the college elections was issued.

According to preliminary information, the first explosion occurred in the early hours near the residence of college Principal Akshay Tripathy. Hearing a loud explosion, the principal rushed outside and found the surrounding area engulfed in smoke. He immediately contacted his fellow faculty members and informed them about the situation.

Shortly afterwards, three to four more explosions were reported near the Pathani Samanta Boys’ Hostel on the college premises, triggering panic among students.

The principal also informed Jajpur Road police about the incident. On receiving information, Jajpur Road Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ashish Kumar Sahu rushed to the spot along with a police team.

Police reportedly recovered unexploded bombs from the college premises and launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the incident.

The explosions occurred just a day before the scheduled filing of nomination papers for the student union elections, raising concerns over security arrangements on the college campus.

The incident has left students and college authorities apprehensive ahead of the elections.

College authorities have demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the bomb attacks to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosions and are yet to ascertain the motive behind the incident. A scientific team has also been called to examine the site as part of the investigation.
