Bhubaneswar: The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court on Saturday rejected the bail petition of Pratap Kishore Panda, owner of Panda Infra Private Ltd, filed by his lawyer under health grounds.
The lawyer had prayed the court to grant bail to his client as he is not directly involved in the Bomikhal flyover mishap and has critical health problems.
The court also said since police had booked Panda under Section 304 of the IPC, the case would be decided in a higher court.
In response to the prayer by Panda’s counsel to allow the treatment of his client at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, the court directed the doctor at Jharpada Special Jail to submit a report on his health condition by May 7.
The Commissionerate Police had arrested Panda on May 4 after a portion of an under-construction flyover at Bomikhal in the capital city caved in the night on May 3 in which two labourers were seriously injured.
While Ajay Vumicha (38) of Lathikata area of Sundargarh district succumbed to his injuries at Capital Hospital, another labourer Ananda Kumar Nayak is currently undergoing treatment at AMRI Hospital in the city.
