Bhubaneswar: One among the two labourers, who sustained serious injuries in the flyover collapse at Bomikhal, died while undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital here. A portion of the flyover had caved in on Thursday evening.
He was identified as Ajay Bhumich, 38, a native of Lathikata in Sundargarh district.
The injured, identified as Anand Nayak, has been shifted to a private hospital, sources said.
Of the total eight labourers, two were trapped under an iron railing at the construction site, according to eyewitnesses.
One labourer was immediately rescued by locals, while it took an hour to free the other. The duo was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The mishap reportedly took after centering of the flyover collapsed.
On being informed, police personnel reached the spot and started investigation.
Meanwhile, irate locals blocked the road demanding action against those responsible for the incident. DCP Anup Sahoo has reached the spot and trying to pacify them, sources further said.
Khurda collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra, who also reached the spot, assured the agitators of a high-level probe. The collector said he had a discussion with the works department in this regard, sources added.
On September 10 last year, a person was killed and 20 others were injured after a part of the same bridge collapsed.
